iPhone Duo Size Compared With iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone Air and More
The $1,999 iPhone Duo folds shorter than the Pro Max, but its 254-gram weight and 11.3mm folded thickness stand out beside other iPhones.

The iPhone Duo’s main size advantage shows up when it’s folded: it’s shorter than the iPhone 18 Pro Max, which can make it easier to carry in a pocket. But folding the phone doesn’t make it light or slim. At 254 grams and 11.3 millimeters thick when closed, the $1,999 device feels substantially different from Apple’s conventional phones, especially the thin iPhone Air.

That tradeoff is central to the Duo. Its 5.4-inch cover screen handles phone tasks while the 7.6-inch inner display opens up more room for multitasking, video and work on the go. The unfolded device measures 5.2mm thick. Those two screen sizes make it a phone-tablet hybrid, but the larger workspace comes with added weight and a thicker folded shape. A side-by-side comparison with other models helps put those compromises in context.

Shorter than the Pro Max, close in weight
The $1,299 iPhone 18 Pro Max has a 6.9-inch display, measures 8.75mm thick and weighs 249 grams. That makes it five grams lighter than the folded Duo, a difference that’s unlikely to define the carrying experience on its own. The more noticeable distinction is height: the Duo folds into a shorter form, which may be easier to fit into a pocket, including smaller pockets.

That doesn’t mean the Duo is pocket-friendly in every dimension. Its folded thickness is 11.3mm, compared with 8.75mm for the Pro Max. The Duo saves space vertically while taking up more room front to back. Whether that feels like a useful exchange depends on the shape and depth of the pocket or bag you use.

The $1,199 iPhone 18 Pro offers a different comparison. It has a 6.3-inch display and the same 8.75mm thickness as the Pro Max, but weighs 211 grams. At 43 grams heavier, the Duo is more likely to feel hefty beside this smaller Pro model. Its unfolded screen may earn that extra mass for people who regularly want more display space; for everyday phone use, the Pro is the lighter carry.

The standard iPhones are much lighter
Apple hasn’t unveiled a baseline iPhone 18 model. For now, the $899 iPhone 17 gives a useful point of comparison: it has a 6.3-inch display, is 7.95mm thick and weighs 177 grams. That’s 77 grams less than the Duo. The difference reflects the distinct jobs these devices do. The iPhone 17 is a conventional phone; the Duo adds a folding screen and a larger workspace, with a clear cost in carry weight and closed thickness.

The $1,099 iPhone Air makes the contrast sharper. Its 6.5-inch display is slightly larger than the iPhone 17’s, yet the Air is only 5.6mm thick and weighs 165 grams. Compared with the Duo, that’s 89 grams lighter. Moving from the Air to the folded Duo is likely to be the biggest adjustment among these comparisons: the Air prioritizes a thin, light phone, while the Duo carries more hardware to provide its inner display.

The lower-priced $699 iPhone 17E is also far lighter. Its 6.1-inch display sits in a 7.8mm-thick body weighing 169 grams, 85 grams below the Duo. Buyers comparing the two are weighing more than screen size: the Duo costs more and is heavier, while its foldable design provides a larger display when opened.

Size is only part of the decision
The Duo is a first-generation foldable, and its appeal comes with other tradeoffs. It uses TouchID rather than FaceID, its multitasking options are more limited than those on other foldable phones, and its cameras are more scaled back than the iPhone 18 Pro’s. On the other hand, the matte inner-screen finish is designed to reduce glare, and software features connect the two displays.
So the pocket question has a qualified answer: the folded Duo is shorter than the Pro Max, but it remains thicker than Apple’s other phones and weighs more than every model in this comparison. For people who will regularly use the open 7.6-inch screen, that bulk may be a reasonable price for a different kind of mobile workspace. If lightness is the priority, the Air, 17 or 17E makes a stronger case. The iPhone Duo review has more detail on the experience of using Apple’s first foldable.
